Psychodynamic psychotherapy
Psychodynamic psychotherapy in the Tricity - working on the unconscious patterns, relationships and history that lie behind a symptom. 50-minute sessions.
About this service
Psychodynamic psychotherapy assumes that many of our difficulties have sources we are not fully aware of - in childhood relationships, recurring patterns and inner conflicts. Instead of working only with the symptom, it looks at where the symptom came from. In a safe therapeutic relationship, you come to understand yourself more deeply, notice the mechanisms you repeat without realising it, and gain a real opportunity for change. This approach is particularly helpful with recurring relationship difficulties, persistently low mood, low self-esteem and questions of identity. It is usually medium- or long-term work. Sessions last 50 minutes, in person and online.
Frequently asked questions
What does psychodynamic psychotherapy involve?▼
Understanding the unconscious mechanisms, relational patterns and conflicts that lie behind the symptoms - and working on them within the therapeutic relationship.
Who is this approach for?▼
Particularly for people with recurring relationship difficulties, chronic depression, low self-esteem or questions of identity, and after difficult experiences.
How long does psychodynamic therapy take?▼
It is usually a medium- or long-term process - from several months to longer, depending on how deep the difficulties are and on the goals.
How is it different from CBT?▼
CBT is shorter and focused on current thoughts and behaviours. Psychodynamic psychotherapy goes deeper - to the sources and to unconscious patterns.
