Psychotherapy for children in Gdańsk – when to bring your child in?
Children rarely say outright “I don't feel well”. They signal it in other ways: through sudden outbursts of anger, tearfulness, fears, a return to bedwetting, stomach aches with no medical cause, sleep problems, withdrawal or difficulties at preschool or school. This often happens around big changes – the parents' divorce, the birth of a sibling, a house move, the loss of a loved one. It is not a sign that you have failed as a parent. It is a signal that your child needs support in coping with something that is too much for them.
A young child will not sit down for an hour-long conversation about emotions – which is why we work in the child's language. We use play, drawing, fairy tales and age-appropriate techniques that let the child safely express what they are going through. Working together with the parents is just as important: you are the ones closest to your child every day, so we regularly discuss progress and suggest how to support them at home. Sometimes the most effective help for a child is precisely a change in the way the parents respond.
We usually start with a consultation with the parents (without the child) to understand the situation, and then we meet the child. A session lasts 50 minutes and a consultation costs 200 PLN. We see patients in three offices in Gdańsk – in Wrzeszcz on Wajdeloty Street, in Ujeścisko-Łostowice on Bergiela Street and in Ujeścisko on Piekarnicza Street – and we hold some meetings online, especially parental consultations. We work privately, without referrals or NFZ (Poland's National Health Fund) waiting lists. Your first step can be a free initial visit.
