ADHD assessment for children and teenagers in Gdańsk – how does it work?

ADHD in children and teenagers is not “naughtiness”, nor is it the fault of their upbringing. It is the way their nervous system works. The symptoms vary: hyperactivity and fidgeting, but also dreamy “drifting off”, difficulty concentrating and finishing tasks, impulsivity, outbursts, losing things and chaos. At school you often hear that the child “could do it if they wanted to”, while in fact they are really trying and losing the battle with their own attention. An accurate diagnosis lifts the burden of blame from the child and opens the way to effective support.

We assess children and teenagers differently from adults – with the parents taking part, and often with information from the school as well. The foundation is a detailed developmental interview with the parents and the Conners 3 questionnaires, completed by the parents, the teachers and (in older children) the child themselves. This many-sided picture makes it possible to tell ADHD apart from difficulties with other roots – anxiety, emotional problems or the family situation. If needed, we supplement the assessment with additional tools and observation.

The process usually involves 2-3 sessions and ends with a discussion of the results and a written report with recommendations for the parents and the school. We advise on what comes next – how to support your child at home and in lessons, when it is worth considering a psychiatric consultation and when therapy. We see patients at our offices in Gdańsk: Wrzeszcz, Morena, Ujeścisko. We work privately, with no referrals and no NFZ (Poland's National Health Fund) waiting lists. The first step is a free initial visit, where we explain how the assessment works and what it costs.

ADHD assessment for children and teenagers in Gdańsk – frequently asked questions

Answers to the most common questions

How much does a child ADHD assessment cost in Gdańsk?▼

An ADHD assessment costs from 400 PLN and includes 2-3 sessions together with a written report. Before you begin, you can book a free initial visit, where we explain how the process works and exactly what it costs.

What does an ADHD assessment for a child involve?▼

The foundation is a developmental interview with the parents and the Conners 3 questionnaires, completed by the parents, the teachers and older children. This many-sided picture lets us reliably assess the symptoms in different situations and tell ADHD apart from other difficulties.

How is Conners 3 different from the tests for adults?▼

Conners 3 is a set of questionnaires designed specifically for children and teenagers, rating behaviour at home and at school. For adults we use other tools, such as DIVA 5.0 or MOXO. That is why we assess children through a separate pathway suited to their age.

Do I need to take part in the assessment as a parent?▼

Yes, a parent's involvement is essential. You know your child's development and everyday functioning best, and the interview with you is the foundation of a reliable assessment. Information from teachers, which we can ask for, is often helpful too.

From what age can ADHD be diagnosed?▼

ADHD symptoms usually show already at preschool and early school age, but we choose the age for an assessment individually. We assess both younger children and teenagers. At the first contact we will judge whether this is a good moment for an assessment.

What do we receive after the assessment?▼

You receive a discussion of the results and a written report with recommendations for the parents and the school. We suggest how to support your child day to day and with learning, and when it is worth considering a psychiatric consultation or therapy.

Can a child's assessment be done online?▼

Part of the interview with the parents can be done online, but we observe the child and carry out some of the testing in person. We agree on the format at the start, adapting it to the child's age and the kind of difficulties.

Is a referral needed?▼

No. We carry out assessments privately, without referrals or NFZ waiting lists, so you can book the first meeting within a few days. Afternoon appointments make it easier to fit the assessment around school.
