Cognitive behavioural therapy in Gdańsk – what is it?
If anxiety makes you avoid more and more situations, your thoughts circle around worst-case scenarios and in the evening you cannot “switch off your mind” – cognitive behavioural therapy was created with exactly these difficulties in mind. CBT starts from a simple assumption: the way we interpret situations affects our emotions and behaviour. Once you learn to notice and check distorted thoughts, they stop ruling your mood and your everyday decisions.
CBT is one of the best-researched therapeutic approaches and is particularly effective for anxiety disorders, depression, phobias, obsessions and compulsions, and insomnia. We work in a concrete, task-focused way: we set goals together, break them down into smaller steps and practise new responses between sessions too. The therapist teaches you tools that you keep using after therapy ends. Where needed, we combine CBT with schema therapy or ACT if the difficulties have deeper roots.
A CBT session lasts 50 minutes and usually takes place weekly. The therapy is usually shorter than in other approaches – a dozen or so sessions are often enough, although it all depends on the problem. We see patients in three offices in Gdańsk: in Wrzeszcz on Wajdeloty Street, in Ujeścisko-Łostowice on Bergiela Street and in Ujeścisko on Piekarnicza Street, as well as online. We work privately, without referrals or NFZ (Poland's National Health Fund) waiting lists. Start with a free initial visit, where you meet the therapist and see whether CBT is right for you.
