Psychotherapy for depression in Gdańsk – how do we help?
Depression rarely looks the way it does in films. More often it is a grey everyday life without energy: you wake up tired, even the simplest tasks at work feel overwhelming, you withdraw from people, and things that once brought you joy now leave you indifferent. On top of that come thoughts that you are worthless and a feeling that things will always stay this way. This is not laziness or a lack of willpower – these are symptoms of an illness that disrupts the way the brain processes emotions. And one that can be treated effectively.
In treating depression, cognitive behavioural therapy has the strongest evidence base: it helps you recognise and change the thoughts that keep your mood low and gradually bring back activities that give you satisfaction. We also work in other approaches – psychodynamic therapy, ACT and schema therapy – when depression has deeper, recurring roots. At the start we look carefully at what is going on and, if needed, advise you on when it is worth considering a psychiatric consultation and medication alongside therapy.
Sessions last 50 minutes and usually take place once a week. We see patients in three offices in Gdańsk – in Wrzeszcz on Wajdeloty Street, in Ujeścisko-Łostowice on Bergiela Street and in Ujeścisko on Piekarnicza Street – and online, which can make things much easier when it is hard to get yourself out of the house. We work privately, without referrals or waiting lists, so help is available quickly. Start with a free initial visit – even if you have little energy right now, one meeting does not commit you to anything.
