Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) in Gdynia – how does it work?
CBT starts from a simple observation: what we think affects what we feel and how we behave. When you keep coming back to “I'll definitely embarrass myself”, anxiety rises, so you avoid – and avoiding confirms to the brain that the threat is real. That's how a vicious circle forms, one that fuels anxiety, low mood, intrusive thoughts or sleep problems. CBT helps you see that circle and dismantle it, instead of fighting the symptoms blindly.
Cognitive behavioural therapy is concrete and has a clear goal. At the start we map out together what's keeping your problem going, and then, step by step, you learn to recognise thinking distortions, test them against reality, and introduce new behaviours. Between sessions you get small tasks to try out in everyday life – because change happens outside the office. CBT has documented effectiveness for anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder and panic attacks. Where needed, we combine it with ACT, schema therapy or DBT.
A CBT session lasts 50 minutes and usually takes place once a week or every two weeks, and the whole therapy tends to be shorter than in other approaches, because it's focused on a specific goal. We see patients at our office in central Gdynia at 10 Lutego 7/103, a few minutes from Gdynia Główna station – easy to reach from Redłowo, Karwiny, Chylonia or from Rumia and Reda. We also run sessions online. Start with a free initial visit and see if this approach is for you.
