What does the school for parents teach?
Nobody teaches us how to be a parent – and the patterns we bring from our own family homes kick in automatically, especially under stress. The school for parents is a proven format of group workshops where, instead of theory, you practise specific skills: how to talk so your child will listen; how to listen so your child will talk; how to set boundaries without shouting, punishment or blackmail; how to stay with your child through anger, fear and sadness without shutting the emotions down or giving in to them.
We work on participants’ real situations – morning battles, homework, screens, siblings. The group offers what no guidebook can: the chance to practise new responses, support from parents with similar difficulties and the discovery that you are not the only one who finds it hard at times.
The workshops are led by a psychologist who works with families. We welcome parents of children of any age – we put groups together so that the participants’ children are of a similar age. One parent taking part works; both parents taking part works faster.
