Trauma psychotherapy in Gdynia – how do we help?
Trauma isn't only the result of one dramatic event – an accident, violence, a loss. It can also be the sum of difficult experiences that stretch over years, such as growing up in a home that didn't feel safe (ACA). The body and mind then react as if the threat were still there: images and nightmares return, along with excessive vigilance, irritability, tension, avoidance and a sense of being cut off from yourself. This isn't weakness or “dwelling on it” – it's a natural reaction to something that overwhelmed you. And it can be worked through.
In trauma work, the patient sets the pace, not the therapist. We always start with a sense of safety and stabilisation – only on that ground do we approach difficult material, never by force. We use methods with proven effectiveness: EMDR (eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing), somatic work with tension held in the body, and trauma-focused cognitive behavioural therapy. The first step is a psychotraumatological consultation, where we assess the situation and choose a safe way of working together.
The psychotraumatological consultation lasts 50 minutes; further therapy proceeds at a rhythm and pace suited to you, because rushing does harm in trauma work. We see patients at our office in central Gdynia at 10 Lutego 7/103, on the first floor, a few minutes from Gdynia Główna station, with convenient access from Redłowo, Orłowo, Chylonia, as well as from Sopot, Rumia and Reda. We also run sessions online. Start with a free initial visit, where you'll meet the specialist with no obligation.
