Family therapy in Gdynia – who is it for?
Sometimes one person carries the problem – a teenager who's rebelling, a child with anxieties, someone with an eating disorder – but the whole family feels the tension. In family therapy we start from the idea that the trouble rarely sits “in one head”; more often it lies in how everyone communicates with each other, what the roles and boundaries look like, what's been left unsaid. Families come to us in generational conflict, after divorce, in a blended family, after a loss, or when one child ends up “holding” all the tension of the household.
We invite to the session the family members the issue concerns – sometimes parents and a teenager, sometimes siblings, sometimes two generations. The therapist doesn't look for someone to blame and doesn't take anyone's side; they help you see how your reactions interlock and how one change affects the whole system. We work on communication, clear boundaries and rebuilding contact, drawing on the systemic approach and elements of SFBT. Instead of asking “who's at fault”, we ask “what can we change together”.
A family therapy session lasts 80 minutes, because several people take part in the conversation and everyone needs their own time. Meetings usually take place every two weeks, at our office in central Gdynia at 10 Lutego 7/103, a few minutes from Gdynia Główna station, or online when it's hard to gather everyone in one place. Easy to reach from Redłowo, Orłowo, Chylonia or Wielki Kack, as well as from Rumia, Reda and Sopot. Start with a free initial visit.
