What is codependency and how does the group work?
Codependency is an entrenched way of functioning in a close relationship with an addicted person: living in constant tension, controlling, hiding the problem from the world, taking responsibility for someone else’s drinking and its consequences, giving up your own needs. It is an adaptation to an abnormal situation – understandable, but debilitating.
The group brings together people with similar experiences: partners, parents of adult children, adult children of addicted parents. The work focuses on what you can really influence: your boundaries, your emotions, your life. We don’t teach “how to make him stop drinking” – because that is beyond your control. We teach you how to stop disappearing from your own life.
The group is led by a psychotherapist experienced in treating addiction and codependency. Taking part does not require the addicted person to be in treatment – help for their loved ones works independently.
What does it look like in practice?
