A job for a neurological speech and language therapist in Gdańsk and Gdynia: assessing and treating speech, communication and swallowing disorders with a neurological basis in children and adults.
About the position
We are looking for a neurological speech and language therapist to assess and treat speech, language and communication disorders, as well as swallowing disorders, that result from damage to or dysfunction of the nervous system. You work both with children (including premature babies and infants with feeding difficulties, as well as children with cerebral palsy, genetic syndromes, developmental aphasia and childhood apraxia of speech) and with adults after strokes and brain injuries or with neurodegenerative diseases (e.g. Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, ALS). You work with the Sztuka Harmonii team of psychologists and with the patients' doctors.

Responsibilities
- Neurological speech and language assessment of children and adults, including assessment of primary oral functions (breathing, sucking, biting, chewing, swallowing)
- Early speech and language intervention for infants and premature babies, including feeding therapy
- Therapy for children with cerebral palsy, genetic syndromes, developmental aphasia and childhood apraxia of speech
- Therapy for aphasia, dysarthria and apraxia of speech in adults after strokes and brain injuries and with neurodegenerative diseases
- Speech and language assessment and therapy of dysphagia in cooperation with the patient's doctor
- Selecting and introducing augmentative and alternative communication (AAC)
- Guidance for parents and carers, and preparing exercises for home practice
- Working with psychologists and with the patient's doctors and physiotherapists
- Keeping therapy records
Requirements
- A university education in speech and language therapy (a master's degree or postgraduate studies in speech and language therapy)
- Completed postgraduate studies in neurological speech and language therapy, or a specialisation in this field
- Clinical experience working with neurological patients (children or adults)
- Knowledge of neurological speech and language assessment and therapy methods
- Empathy, patience and the ability to work with the patient's family and carers
Nice to have
- Training in the Castillo Morales concept
- NDT-Bobath training
- Training in dysphagia assessment and therapy
- Knowledge of AAC systems (e.g. Makaton, PCS)
- Training in myofunctional therapy
- Experience on a neurology or stroke ward, or at an early intervention centre
